In the summer of 2019, I was a guest speaker for students at the Walter H. Dyett High School for the Arts in partnership with After School Matters, Fashion Design and YOU!. This portion of the talk focuses on my professional journey to becoming "The Chicago Pattern Maker".
In this summer program, students learn the vocational skill of pattern making, cutting and garment construction in tandem with the soft skill of effective communication. I was pleased to share a little about my journey as a local professional pattern maker and fashion designer. The program aims to provide vulnerable teens access to careers in the fashion arts industry by showcasing its value and exposing them to non-traditional career paths that will generate new economic funnels within their communities - contributing to their social and economic self-sufficiency and sustainability.
Thank you so much to Fashion Design and YOU! Director Chanell Hasty for this opportunity!
